A little about your background?
I was born and bred in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Both my parents had moved there in the late 70’s in search for the better life which I have been blessed with. With my High school diploma in one hand and suitcase in another, I scurried to Montreal, where I completed a Bachelors’ degree in Economics. Upon graduation, my selectively traditional parents summoned me back to the emirates, where I am expected to work, procreate and live.
Why are you in Dubai?
It is my only parent approved alternative to Abu Dhabi.
If you were a shoe, which make and style would you be and why?
I thought long and hard about this one, and was torn between being a shibshib and being a sock. A shibshib because it’s timeless, dependable and practical… The shibshib will never fail you…It will always be there for you. However, I am finding myself more and more like a cotton sock. Socks too are dependable but are ever so caring. Requisite because they keep you warm when it’s cold, they soak up all your exhaustion after a long day and most importantly, a sock exists to protect u. No matter how much you use me and subject me to harsh substances, I survive to take another day and am content to have a special drawer. In love, I’m better than a shoe; my dedication to my other half consumes me and I can only rest when folded into him till we become one. However….and to my dismay…ever so often my partner doesn’t make it back to the drawer …leaving me crippled and obsolete.

How does your pen name describe you?
My name reflects many things about me: J is my real initial; I’m a scientist, hence the chemical name; & H2O is essential to all living things. So am I. Like water, I can take the form of any container. Though I have my own special properties, I can still fit with any group of people. Like water, I can come in different states & moods depending on the temperature (of my hormones). And like water, even if you drink all other liquids, nothing else will quench your thirst.

I was born and raised in the Gulf, studied and finished my studies in Europe & North America, and then back to the Gulf again, where I reside in Dubai. I’ve been to many countries, seen many more people, and experienced the differences of various cultures. I have no connections or affections to any piece of land, to any colour of flag, or to any political territory. I’m a Muslim with allegiances to the Humans in my life.
Why are you in Dubai?
Why Not? Where else would you find so many cultures under one (always) sunny sky? Where else would east meet west and you could be too conservative or too liberal and still fit in? Where else would there be so many shopping malls in such a small area and luxury be the norm and basis of day-to-day life? Where else would world records get broken by colossal development projects every month or so? Where, but in Dubai, would ultimate contradictions occur (no local dress allowed in bars & clubs after 10 pm to preserve the Emirati heritage but there are bars and clubs at every corner!!)? Where would cultures come crashing with the local society but all are willing to avert their attention to other things to live happily ever after in the dream land called Dubai? What other city can be a living example of an oxymoronic reality like Dubai??
Home is where the family lives, and Dubai has been my home for awhile.

I’d be the pair of shoes in your favourite shop window which you have desired for so long yet can never have.

How does your pen name describe you?
By my own measure and those of my friends, I had always thought of myself as being quite down-to-earth. Apparently though the fact that I have an opinion and can speak it has penned me the name “Diva”. Fine with me. I totally don’t mind being dubbed a name that typically comes with describing women who are beautiful, successful, independent, and strive for nothing but the best.

I’m a “Cancer” but prefer to think of myself in a more sophisticated way as a “Cancerian”. And yes, there IS a difference . As most of those who share my sign, I’m intuitive, imaginative, thoughtful, giving, shy (yeah right!), and moody (I’ll clarify here that I am not moody, I have moods.. but then again, who doesn’t?!)

Egyptian origin, but born in the USA. Childhood spent in GCC before going back to US for high school and college. Business girl from the onset and an MBA to prove it
Why are you in Dubai?
After completing my MBA and working in the US, I just didn’t feel that I belonged there anymore. I wanted to be someplace that I felt I would be a nice balance between Western and Eastern culture.

A strappy pair of sandals by Christian Dior. I love how they wrap around the ankle.. so elegant and feminine. Who needs a comfortable shoe when you can look that good!

The first Star sign in the zodiac. The sign clearly states “FIRST”. DO i need to say more??? “I get things started and I lead the way”. That’s LEAD NOT follow. I’m Adventurous, Blunt, Energetic, Confident, Direct and definetlty quick-witted. Im also quick-tempered, impulsive and impatient. It’s best to be on my good side.

Born physically in the middle east, but I believe my soul was born somewhere in the Ghetto hoods of the United States. Born in kuwait, raised in Dubai and going to be Dead somewhere else. Heck, That’s life.

Well it’s not like I have a choice. However,since I am in Dubai, I spend my days being under-educated in it’s only accredited university “The American University in Dubai”.

TIMBERLAND BOOTS! because I simply “Make it Better”. I’m the cherry on top of the ice-cream, without me, it’s just NOT the same. I make EVERYTHING Better
