Matar Makes The Times’ List Just After Al Abbar and Before Janahi

The Times published a report last Friday on Who’s Who in the GCC and who is driving the Gulf Economy.

Not surprisingly, Sheikh Mo topped the list. The UAE had the majority of names, followed by Saudi. But one name was a surprise. Ismail Matar was no 22.

Matar is an excellent footballer and I still remember chanting his name when the UAE won its first Gulf Cup earlier this year, but I just don’t see how he is shaping tomorrow’s business. He is an influential figure, no doubt about it. I’m sure many youngsters are looking up to him and many older ones are seeing their dreams finally coming true through him. He could be shaping the future of the most popular sport in the GCC…but business? Not sure if advertising deals should be considered of similar significance to what the other names on that list do. But that is just the opinion of a Dubai Girl!
